报告摘要:Electron microscopy has seen tremendous developments over the last couple of years, providing unprecedented possibilities in structural and functional materials characterization at the nanometer and atomic scale. With the high spatial resolution and high beam currents available in aberration-corrected (S)TEMs, highly sensitive detectors for imaging and spectroscopy, and fast readout speeds, new microscopy methods have been established. These methods enable advanced insights into materials, their 2D/3D structure, and chemistry. Moreover, with recent advances in 4D-STEM characterization, it is now possible to characterize functional properties such as electric or magnetic field distributions together with structural characterization.
In this presentation, Prof. Kübel will provide an overview of the techniques and the information that can be obtained by transmission electron microscopy. Examples will include atomic-resolution imaging and spectroscopy, 4D-STEM, electron tomography, and in situ TEM to understand structures, properties, and processes in oxide-based quantum materials, electrochemical energy storage systems, and, as a more unusual example, metallic glass.

个人简介:Christian Kübel studied chemistry at the University of Mainz and received his Ph.D. in 1998, working with Prof. Klaus Müllen at the MPI for Polymer Research. From 1999 to 2000, he joined the University of Michigan as a Feodor-Lynen Postdoc, working on high-resolution imaging of defects in polymers. From 2000 to 2004, he worked as a Senior Application Specialist for TEM at Philips/FEI Company in Eindhoven and contributed significantly to the development of TrueImage, Focal Series Reconstruction, and Explore3D Tomography. From 2005 to 2008, he was group leader at Fraunhofer IFAM, Bremen. From 2009 to 2019, he was group leader of the Electron Microscopy & Spectroscopy group at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and continued since then as department leader of Advanced Electron Microscopy in Materials Research. In addition, since 2011, he has also served as principal investigator at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) for electrochemical energy storage, and since 2013 as deputy director of the Karlsruhe Nano Micro Facility (KNMF). Since 2019, he has held a professorship for in-situ electron microscopy at the Technical University Darmstadt.
His research interests include developing methods for electron microscopy, such as electron tomography, STEM diffraction imaging (4D-STEM), and in-situ/operando testing for applications in materials science, including batteries, catalysis, ceramics, bulk nanocrystalline metals, and metallic glasses. He has published more than 350 peer-reviewed papers and holds one patent.
